Silvia translates its mineral inspiration into abstract shapes which leaves a great space to imagination : some will see a snowy forest, others will see an animal wandering or even maybe stalactites...
Silvia offers a different way of gathering : its organic shaped plate breaks the traditional face-to-face setting.
Origins
Theses lava stones comes from the French « Volvic » volcano belt, in Auvergne area. In the early XII century, monks opened the underground galleries in order to extract the lava stone from it and used it to build cathedrals and other types of buildings.
Nowadays, Auvergne is still the one of the only regions of the world to produce this type of stone which makes this material very unique and exclusive.
Manufacturing process
The stones are first extracted from the quarries and are then cut and sculpted in order to reach the desired shape. Lava stones are not only, highly resistant and longlasting, they are also a very adaptative material which leaves a lot of creative possiblities in terms of shapes. Finally, lava stones are enamelled which gives this strong colofrul aspect to the stone.
Properties
The stones are resistant to UV and very sanitary, fireproof and imperishable.
The enamels used are all from Limoges in France.
The Workshop is located in Clermont Ferrand.
